10 Fun Easter-Themed Math Activities for Kids (Part 1)

In Captain Number, we love child-led activities where kids can lead what they want to do and show their parents. So often, we hear kids telling their parents about the tuff tray activities they are doing in the club, saying things such as - "Mum, look at what I did!" or "Oh Mum, can you do it? Hahaha, I am very good at this, Mummy!"

With half-term off, our Number Navigator Club is off too, but we have listed our top 5 tray games (for this week) you can do at home— enough for one a day! Keep your little one busy with meaningful play.

Day 1: Easter Egg Number Hunt

Materials: Plastic eggs, paper slips with math problems

Write simple math problems on paper slips (e.g., “2 + 3") and place them inside plastic eggs. Hide the eggs around the house or garden. Kids must solve the problem before adding the egg to their basket!

Day 2: Jellybean Graphing

Materials: Jellybeans, paper, crayons

Have kids sort jellybeans by colour and create a bar graph. Ask questions like: "Which colour has the most? The least? How many more red than yellow?"

Day 3: Egg Carton Addition & Subtraction

Materials: Egg carton, small counters (beans, buttons, coins)

Label egg carton sections with numbers (0-12). Give kids a handful of counters and let them drop them into the sections. Have them add or subtract the numbers in two or more sections.

Day 4: Patterned Egg Decorating

Materials: Hard-boiled eggs, markers, stickers

Encourage kids to decorate eggs using repeating patterns (ABAB, AABB, ABCABC). Discuss pattern recognition and let them create their own sequences!

Day 5: Easter Counting Tray

Materials: A tray, plastic eggs, number cards

Place number cards in a tray along with plastic eggs. Kids count out objects (beans, mini erasers, etc.) to match the number on each card.

Don’t throw anything away yet! We will use some of these materials next week to continue the fun. We will also post some tips during this Easter holiday too.

P.S. We would love to see your maths in play ideas! Share with us on Facebook / Instagram and tag us to let us know.
